  • Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries opens 10 training courses on sidelines of 10th International Conference of African-Mediterranean Gastroenterology Association

    The General Secretariat of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries convened on 30 October 10 specialised training courses on gastrointestinal and liver cancer, as well as endoscopy, on the sidelines of the 10th International Conference of the African-Mediterranean Gastroenterology Association (AMAGE). 
    Held in collaboration with the Egyptian Society for the Study of Liver and Digestive Diseases, the Jordanian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and the Egyptian Society for Fatty Liver Disease, the event carries the theme "Advancing the Practice of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Africa and the Middle East." 
    This distinguished scientific and medical event, taking place on 30-31 October, brings together over 400 leading specialists in gastroenterology from across Africa, the Middle East, China, Japan, and Europe. In addition, medical scholarship recipients from Egyptian universities, hailing from Burundi, Sudan, Cameroon, Comoros, Kenya, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guinea Conakry, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Niger, South Africa, South Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Chad, Uganda, and Zambia, are participating in this international forum.
    Ambassador Mohannad Saleh Lajouzi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Director-General of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries, participated in the opening ceremony of the conference and training courses, attended by the heads of participating organisations and a delegation of African ambassadors. 
    In his address, His Excellency Ambassador Lajouzi welcomed the attendees and highlighted the ongoing, fruitful collaboration with the African-Mediterranean Gastroenterology Society since 2018 aimed at advancing the expertise of African medical professionals. Ambassador Lajouzi also outlined the initiatives undertaken by the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries, particularly in health, to support African specialists, emphasising Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit's personal commitment to this vital field and his unwavering support for all of the Fund's initiatives. He further affirmed the continued provision of technical support to African colleagues through specialised training for doctors and nurses.
    The conference features scientific lectures, along with theoretical and practical training sessions on the latest advancements in gastrointestinal and liver cancer treatment. Additionally, live broadcasts of laparoscopic surgeries are conducted from Ain Shams University as well as universities in Japan and Germany, providing a hands-on learning experience for participants.
