A workshop on Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration will be convened at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, organised by the Department of Arms Control and Disarmament within the International Political Affairs Sector, in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Folke Bernadotte Academy, from 1 to 3 October.
The workshop falls within the framework of the ongoing cooperation between the League of Arab States and the United Nations on issues of peace and security, reflecting a shared belief in the importance of coordinating and harmonising efforts between regional and international organisations on disarmament-related matters. It aims to build the capacities of Arab states and staff of the League of Arab States, while also serving as a continuation of the workshop held at the General Secretariat in December 2022 on the same subject.
The workshop brings together 70 experts from 13 Arab countries, alongside representatives from relevant departments of the General Secretariat, the Folke Bernadotte Academy, the African Union Centre for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, and several United Nations bodies engaged in this field.
