  • General Secretariat participates in training course for African cadres in irrigation field

    In cooperation with the Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture, the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries is participating in a training course in Kigali, Rwanda, for the benefit of high-level African cadres in the field of irrigation. The initiative is a collaboration between the Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, the African Union Office for Cereals and Arid Regions, the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the African Export-Import Bank, and the World Bank. The League of Arab States and the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries participated in the opening ceremony of the training course, which took place on 24 June in Kigali.
    The course, extending for five days, is designed for 37 high-level African cadres who are managers of water departments in African irrigation ministries. The opening ceremony was attended by Mr. Patrick Karangwa, representing the Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, and Ambassador Mohannad Saleh Lajouzi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Director-General of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries, representing His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. In his speech, Ambassador Lajouzi lauded the organisation of this course in Rwanda and the participation of the aforementioned bodies, highlighting the significant interest these organisations place on supporting the irrigation sector in Africa and training its officials.
    The Director-General of the Fund conveyed the best greetings of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States to all participants, expressing His Excellency’s sincere wishes for their success. He emphasised His Excellency’s personal interest in following up on the Fund’s activities in Africa. He also thanked the Republic of Rwanda for hosting this event and praised the fruitful and ongoing cooperation with the African Union over the past ten years. He extended his gratitude to all partners involved in this activity and expressed hope that the participants would benefit from the high-level frameworks during the session.
    In turn, the heads of the participating institutions from the African Union, the Food and Agriculture Organisation, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the African Export-Import Bank, and the World Bank expressed their appreciation to the Republic of Rwanda and its officials for hosting this event. They highly appreciated the efforts made by all parties supporting this activity and expressed their sincere desire to organise similar activities in the future for the benefit of high-level African cadres in the field of irrigation.
