The Assistant Secretary-General hosted His Excellency Professor Dr. Said Abu Ali at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States on 21 December. Also present were Mr. Wang Di, Director-General of the West Asia and North Africa Department at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting delved into the critical situation in the occupied Palestinian Territories, particularly addressing the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. The discussions emphasised the dire humanitarian conditions faced by the people of the Strip due to the brutal war waged by the occupation army.
Both parties underscored the imperative for an immediate ceasefire, the protection of civilians, and ensuring unimpeded access to humanitarian aid that caters to the urgent needs of the people in Gaza. The necessity of ongoing coordination efforts to establish a political path forward and convene an international conference to implement the vision of a two-state solution, grounded in the principles of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy, was stressed. The ultimate goal remains ending the Israeli occupation, establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state along the 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. This, the officials emphasised, is the sole means to halt the cycle of violence and attain security, peace, and stability in the region.
