The Intellectual Property and Competitiveness Department
- In affirmation of close cooperation between the League of Arab States (LAS) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on 16th July 2000 to strengthen cooperation between the two organizations in issues of mutual interest, such as exchanging and updating information, preparing and publicizing studies, information and references in Arabic language on various topics concerning intellectual property, promoting inter-Arab and regional cooperation and organizing joint conferences and seminars relevant to Intellectual Property.
- The Intellectual Property and Competitiveness Unit commenced its activities pursuant to Resolution 9071 issued by the 115th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States on 12th March 2001, which adopted the establishment of the Intellectual Property within the structure of the Cabinet of the Secretary-General.
- On 4th April 2012, the Arab League Secretary-General issued a decision to upgrade the Intellectual Property Unit to become a Department of Intellectual Property within the structure of the Economic Affairs Sector.
- On 18th February 2016, Resolution 2086 was issued by the 97th Ordinary Session of the Economic and Social Council at Ministerial Level approving the establishment of the Technical Intellectual Property Committee.
