Mr.
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, held
a meeting on 23 September with Mr. Miguel Moratinos, High
Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilisations, on the
sidelines of the high-level segment of the 79th session of the United
Nations General Assembly in New York.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that
Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed grave concern over the numerous challenges
confronting the international community, particularly the ongoing
Israeli atrocities and indiscriminate killing of civilians in Gaza, the
West Bank, and southern Lebanon. He underscored that these violations,
perpetrated with blatant disregard for humanitarian principles, values,
and international law, have eroded trust and stymied any meaningful
progress towards fostering a culture of peace and dialogue.
Roshdy added that both sides emphasised the importance of close
cooperation in the implementation of the Executive Action Plan for the
Unified Strategy of the Alliance of Civilisations. This plan, developed
by the General Secretariat and endorsed by the Council of the League of
Arab States at the ministerial level in 2016, represents a critical
framework for advancing intercultural understanding and collaboration.
