Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, warned about the perilous consequences of the Israeli occupation targeting the Rafah area in the Gaza Strip. He stressed that the occupation's intentions to enforce displacement on hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, who sought refuge in Rafah as a last resort from indiscriminate attacks on civilians, constitute an exposed and rejected plan. This plan poses serious threats to regional stability.
Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, said Mr. Aboul Gheit stated that compelling hundreds of thousands to flee the Gaza Strip violates international law and humanitarian principles. Additionally, it dangerously escalates the regional situation by crossing the red lines of national security for a significant Arab country, Egypt.
Mr. Aboul Gheit emphasised the critical need for the world to recognise the danger posed by Israeli practices driven by an extremist right-wing agenda aiming to depopulate the Gaza Strip. This agenda seeks comprehensive ethnic cleansing, which is unacceptable in the present era.
The spokesman highlighted that certain figures in the Israeli government have openly expressed their intentions to displace and deport the population, even considering the return of Israeli settlements to the Gaza Strip. International action at this stage is imperative to prevent a catastrophe that could escalate and further inflame the regional situation.
