Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, the at the League's headquarters in Cairo on 14 October. During their meeting, the two officials discussed the grave developments in the Gaza Strip.
The Secretary-General stressed the League of Arab States' unequivocal rejection of any forced relocation of Palestinians from the north to the south of the Gaza Strip, as well as any collective punishment that flagrantly violates international humanitarian law.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said Mr. Aboul Gheit and Baerbock agreed on the importance of safeguarding the civilian population in Gaza from Israeli military actions and the urgent need to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid to prevent further deterioration of the situation.
The spokesperson added that Mr. Aboul Gheit listened to the German Minister's insights regarding the ongoing developments. He emphasised the necessity of international collaboration to prevent the continuation of a potential tragedy in Gaza, especially given that the cycle of violence and revenge is unlikely to bring long-term security or peace.
Mr. Aboul Gheit articulated that the root issue, which cannot be evaded, is the persisting occupation and the absence of a political solution. He expressed that the current circumstances make the prospect of peace increasingly remote.
Additionally, the spokesperson noted that Baerbock talked about the crisis involving German nationals detained in the Gaza Strip.
