  • League Secretary-General meets with Lebanon Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam

    As part of his visit to Beirut to inaugurate the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development, held in cooperation with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met on the morning of 14 April with His Excellency Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam at his residence.

    The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Gamal Roshdy, stated that the meeting addressed the latest developments in Lebanon and the broader region. The Secretary-General reaffirmed the League’s unwavering support for Lebanon, stressing the collective commitment of Arab states to assist the country in overcoming its current crisis. He affirmed the urgency of implementing the necessary reforms to meet the economic aspirations of the Lebanese people, reinforce national sovereignty, and ensure the full extension of the state’s authority across all Lebanese territory. He also asserted the imperative of securing a full Israeli withdrawal from the southern regions of Lebanon.

    The meeting further touched upon the situation in Palestine, particularly the escalating crisis in the Gaza Strip. The Secretary-General highlighted the unified Arab and Islamic stance on the necessity of an immediate cessation of Israeli military operations and the continuation of coordinated Arab diplomatic efforts with key international actors to implement the ceasefire agreement in all its phases.
