Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, affirmed on 27 January that "the League firmly and unequivocally supports the Egyptian and Jordanian positions rejecting the proposals being circulated regarding the displacement of Palestinians." This statement was made during a press briefing upon his arrival in Rome to inaugurate the Arab-Italian Economic Forum.
Mr. Aboul Gheit said, "The Arab stance remains resolute in opposing any attempts to displace Palestinians from their land, whether in Gaza or the West Bank. The unified Arab support for the positions of Egypt and Jordan is both clear and steadfast. Proposals, whether old or newly resurfaced, to displace the rightful owners of the land are wholly unacceptable and unworthy of consideration."
He further stated, "The unwavering determination of Egypt and Jordan, coupled with the legendary resilience of the Palestinian people in steadfastly holding onto their land, and the collective Arab rejection of displacement, will thwart any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause."
