The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development on 20 January. This strategic agreement seeks to foster regional collaboration in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and the implementation of carbon market mechanisms across the Arab region. It aims to create avenues for the exchange of knowledge and expertise among member states while aligning efforts to tackle pressing challenges in energy, environmental sustainability, and climate change.
Representing the General Secretariat at the signing was His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Economic Affairs Sector. Dr. Youssef Al-Horr, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development, signed the MoU on behalf of the organisation.
His Excellency Ambassador Al-Maliki said that the MoU represents a pivotal step in strengthening cooperation between the League of Arab States and the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development. He highlighted that this agreement comes at a critical juncture, reflecting the urgent need to develop sustainable strategies that ensure energy security for Arab nations. Furthermore, it enhances opportunities for knowledge-sharing and coordinated efforts to address regional energy challenges.
The Ambassador underscored that this partnership marks the beginning of a new chapter in Arab economic cooperation, paving the way for increased investments in renewable energy. These efforts are poised to significantly contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the region, fostering economic growth while safeguarding environmental and energy sustainability.
