  • Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity launches Arab Common Market for Electricity

    The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States inaugurated the Arab Common Electricity Market in a historic event that underscores the depth of joint Arab cooperation in the energy sector. The occasion took place during the 15th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, attended by the Ministers of Electricity and Energy from Jordan, Bahrain, Tunisia, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, and Egypt. The launch of the Arab Common Electricity Market marks a strategic milestone in advancing Arab integration in the electricity sector. The agreement was signed by the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Sudan, the Syrian Arab Republic, the State of Palestine, the State of Qatar, the State of Kuwait, the State of Libya, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the Republic of Yemen.
    In his speech on this occasion, Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Malki, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the League of Arab States, emphasised that the establishment of the Arab Common Electricity Market represents a qualitative leap in the trajectory of joint Arab action. He noted that the market will play a crucial role in enhancing the stability of electricity supplies, reducing costs, supporting investments in renewable energy, and strengthening the global position of Arab countries as major producers of clean energy. He further highlighted that the signing of the agreement marks the beginning of a new phase in Arab economic cooperation, positioning the market as a platform for sustainable development and deepening economic integration among Arab nations.
    In a gesture of appreciation, the session honoured a number of figures and institutions that made significant contributions to this achievement. The attending ministers praised the tireless efforts of the technical teams and experts who spent years laying the foundations that led to this historic success. The event not only reflects the shared Arab vision for enhanced energy cooperation but also establishes a new chapter in harnessing joint capabilities for electricity production and exchange, ultimately benefiting the interests of the Arab peoples.
