The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States convened the 37th meeting of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers in coordination with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, on 13 November in Alexandria. The high-level event brought together several Arab Ministers of Transport and Communications alongside leading organisations in the transport sector.
The meeting was graced by His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Economic Affairs Sector, with the Executive Office chaired by His Excellency Lieutenant General Kamel Abdel Hadi Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport and Industry of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Council was chaired by His Excellency Eng. Tarek Hosni Salem Zaarab, Minister of Transport and Communications of the State of Palestine.
Dr. Al-Maliki underscored the League's steadfast commitment to advancing Arab cooperation across all facets of the transport sector. He commended the proactive roles of member states in establishing legal frameworks that facilitate coordinated mechanisms within the Arab transport sector, resulting in numerous agreements and strategic projects that connect the Arab world through extensive road, railway, maritime, and air networks. He highlighted his initiative to form a committee dedicated to reviewing these agreements, aimed at enhancing the transport and logistics systems to promote inter-Arab trade flows. The review has revitalised several dormant agreements and led to the participation of additional Arab states, which strengthens regional unity.
Furthermore, Dr. Al-Maliki outlined the meeting’s agenda, which spans various sectors—land, sea, and air transport—calling for innovative approaches that align with evolving global dynamics to bolster the efficiency and competitiveness of the Arab transport network.
On the sidelines, the meeting features an Arab-European workshop on establishing a supply chain for green hydrogen, along with the General Assembly of the Academy convening at the ministerial level for its 29th session.
