  • League welcomes agreement between Yemen parties on economic de-escalation
    Date: 25/07/2024

Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the announcement by the Office of the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Yemen on an agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthis regarding measures to de-escalate tensions in the banking sector and Yemeni Airlines.

Roshdy noted that these measures would alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people, reduce escalation, and create better conditions for the parties to resume political and diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a peaceful political solution to the Yemeni crisis.

He stated that these measures could represent an important step towards building confidence if the Houthis demonstrate a genuine commitment to de-escalation and a sincere intention to engage in a political process. This process should be based on the three well-known terms of reference, ultimately leading to an end to the Yemeni conflict, which has been ongoing for over 10 years.
