The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States expressed great dissatisfaction and astonishment at Argentine President Javier Mele's last-minute withdrawal from a scheduled meeting with the Council of Ambassadors of the Arab and Islamic Groups in Buenos Aires on 7 June, citing the presence of the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Palestine in the audience.

The General Secretariat asserts that such behaviour reflects an unjustified and hostile stance not only towards the State of Palestine but also towards the entire Arab group. It deeply regrets that such an undiplomatic and unacceptable action has come from the leader of a country that previously held positive positions on the Palestinian cause, positions that have unfortunately been reversed by the current political administration.

In this context, it is noteworthy that the attendance list was coordinated with the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasising that excluding the representative of the State of Palestine accredited to the Argentine authorities from any group meetings of the Arab and Islamic groups is contrary to established diplomatic norms.

The General Secretariat hopes that Argentina will review its recent positions on the Palestinian cause, which exhibit blatant bias towards the occupation and align with the wrong side of history. This review is essential for maintaining the longstanding relations with the Arab world and preserving the mutual political and economic interests shared by both sides.
