    Date: 06/06/2024

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the announcement by the Parliament of Slovenia to officially recognise the State of Palestine.

Mr. Aboul Gheit stated that this commendable step reflects a genuine commitment to the two-state solution and a sincere desire on the part of Slovenia to support and implement this solution as soon as possible.

Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that this recognition follows similar actions by several European countries, bringing the total number of countries recognising the Palestinian state to approximately 148. He added that such recognition is a significant pillar for the establishment of the state under international law.

Roshdy quoted the Secretary-General, affirming that this step represents a sound political, moral, and legal stance. It marks an important milestone towards realising a Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. It is also a significant contribution to achieving peace. Mr. Aboul Gheit called on countries that have not yet recognised Palestine to reconsider their position and stand on the right side of history.
