The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States recognised the institutions and individuals who have made significant achievements and valuable contributions in the field of preserving the Arab Document. The recognition took place during the celebration of the Arab Document Day 2022, organised by the General Secretariat on 16 October in cooperation with the Arab Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives.
The awards were divided into three categories: The first category (institutions) was awarded to the Algerian National Archives. The second category (personalities and individuals) was posthumously awarded to late Judge Dr. Ali Abul-Rijal, who was the founder and head of the National Documentation Centre in Yemen. Abul-Rijal was known as the Documentary Memory of Yemen.
The third category (specialists and technicians in archive and document institutions) was awarded to esteemed individuals, including Mrs. Sawsan Ibrahim Muti, a specialist in electronic archiving at the National Library Department in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mr. Munir Al-Milady, the Director of Documentation and Archives at the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, and Mr. Mohamed Youssef Hussein, the Director of the General Department of Technology and Documentation at the National Documentation House in the Republic of Sudan.
His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, was also honoured for his efforts to support collective Arab action in the field of preserving Arab documentary heritage. This recognition was presented by the Arab Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives, the Palestinian National Library, and the Amman and Gulf Centre for Strategic Studies, in recognition of Mr. Abul-Gheit's leadership and commitment to advancing the preservation and promotion of Arab documentary heritage.
