The Arab Human Rights Committee was established by the Arab Charter on Human Rights after its entry into force on 16 March 2008. It aims to consider the reports of States parties on the measures they have taken to implement the rights and freedoms set out in the Charter. The Committee shall consist of seven members in their personal capacity, elected by the States parties to the Charter by secret ballot, to be highly experienced and competent and shall act neutrally and impartially. The Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level, adopted its resolution No. 270 of 23 May 2004, approved at its 16th ordinary session the launching of the Arab Charter on Human Rights.
