The Memorandum of Cooperation for the establishment of an Arab-Indian Cooperation Forum was signed on 2 December 2008 in New Delhi. The document was renewed and developed, and the amended document was signed in December 2013.
Previous Forum Mechanism:
A joint high-level committee convenes annually and alternately, at different levels, according to prior agreement. It is comprised of the following members: The Arab Summit Troika + the General Secretariat + the Indian Foreign Ministry.
The amended memorandum of cooperation for the Arab- Indian Cooperation Forum, and its Executive Program for the period 2014 - 2016, was signed on 17 December 2013 during the Secretary-General's visit to New Delhi.
By virtue of the amended memorandum of cooperation, the Forum procedures were modified to become at the level of Arab Foreign Ministers and Indian Foreign Minister. The ministerial meeting is to convene once every two years, and the senior officials will meet once a year, alternating the venue between India and one of the Arab countries.
The first session of the meeting of senior officials will take place during the last quarter of 2014 in New Delhi. The first session of the Ministerial Meeting of the Forum on Arab-Indian Cooperation will be held during the last quarter of 2015 in one of the Arab countries.
According to the memorandum of cooperation for the establishment of the Arab-Indian cooperation forum, the two sides are working on enhancing cooperation in the following areas:
Political consultations
Economy, Trade and Investment (organizing an annual conference of Arab-Indian partnership)
Energy (establishing a mechanism for dialogue to promote cooperation in the field of energy, to take place annually between senior officials of the relevant ministries from both sides and the General Secretariat)
Human Resources Development
Culture and Education (organizing an annual conference of presidents of Arab and Indian universities, in coordination with the General Secretariat and ALECSO)
