The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States submitted on 25 October its written response to the Registry of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, adhering to the established timelines for the ongoing case examining Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and the legal implications associated with its continued actions. This submission is a pivotal step towards the Court's forthcoming opinion.
The General Secretariat had presented its written submission in July, following established procedures. The comprehensive document, crafted in collaboration with top-tier legal experts and under the direct supervision of Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit, outlined with evidence and reasoning the adverse impact on the Palestinian people, their land, and their resources due to the ongoing occupation. It particularly highlighted the continuous implementation of an apartheid regime by Israel and other persistent violations and crimes against the Palestinian population.
This move is part of the League of Arab States' sustained commitment to supporting the Palestinian stance. It aligns with the decisions made by the League Council at various levels, reflecting solidarity with efforts to secure justice for the Palestinian people in response to both current and historical injustices. The ultimate goal is to hold accountable those responsible for the crimes committed against them through international justice mechanisms.
The court has scheduled hearings in the case, commencing on 19 February 2024.
