Ladies and Gentlemen,
The significant deterioration in the humanitarian situation observed since last month's meeting, with a steady rise in casualties, approaching famine conditions, and a near-complete collapse of the health system leading to epidemic spread of diseases, underscores the ineffectiveness of humanitarian and relief efforts without a comprehensive ceasefire.
While the League of Arab States welcomes any steps to save civilian lives and alleviate suffering in Gaza, it emphasises that international commitments fail to shield civilians from bombing, forced displacement, and death due to hunger or disease. This harsh reality is evident daily, exposing the inadequacy of the international community's response, hindered by unclear positions of key Western countries. It continues to be a painful reality for conscientious people worldwide as they witness the displacement of women and children from Gaza, fleeing indiscriminate strikes that spare no one—whether a child, a fighter, the elderly, or the sick. Today, with nowhere to seek refuge for hundreds of thousands, safety remains elusive, even in UNRWA schools or hospitals. This underscores the danger every individual in Gaza confronts, being a potential target for violence at any time and in any location.
Humanitarian pledges and aid commitments will have limited impact on saving the population as long as the war machine continues. Tightening the siege and controlling aid quantities by the occupation army is, in fact, a deferred death sentence for hundreds of thousands without timely relief. Opening sustainable humanitarian corridors, through an effective mechanism, remains an urgent priority, perhaps exceeding the aid amount mobilised. The absolute priority is to stop this war, which has crossed all limits of criminality, undermining confidence in the international humanitarian law system.
We anticipate a clear, decisive, and unified message emerging from this conference, calling for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.
Thank you.
