Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, strongly condemned the Israeli forces’ raid on the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Jerusalem, describing the attack as part of an ongoing campaign by the occupation aimed at undermining the Agency’s role and dismantling the protection it affords to the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General’s spokesperson, stated that the justifications put forward by the occupation for this illegal raid lack any legal or logical foundation, stressing that the incident forms part of a systematic and sustained effort to terminate UNRWA’s presence and operations in the occupied Palestinian territory.
The spokesperson conveyed Mr. Aboul Gheit’s call on the international community to intervene in an effective and decisive manner to bring an end to this campaign targeting the Agency, which provides vital health, education, and employment services to millions of Palestinian refugees across its five fields of operation. He also recalled the significant vote at the United Nations held a few days earlier to extend UNRWA’s mandate for an additional three years.
