The General Secretariat is convening the 15th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, marking a pivotal moment in the advancement of joint Arab cooperation in the energy sector. The event, scheduled from 1 to 2 December in Cairo, will celebrate the signing of the General Agreement and the Market Agreement for the Arab Common Electricity Market. This achievement represents a historic milestone in the journey of Arab collaboration, laying the foundation for greater integration in the field of electricity.
Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Economic Affairs Sector, said that the signing of these agreements constitutes a decisive step towards establishing a unified Arab electricity market. He noted that the agreements transcend being mere legal frameworks; they provide the foundation for building an integrated market that ensures stability of supply, lowers costs, and fosters investments in renewable energy. This progress positions Arab countries as global leaders in clean energy production.
His Excellency further highlighted the significance of the pilot project for the Arab Levant countries, describing it as the cornerstone for the implementation of the market. He underlined that this accomplishment ushers in a new era of economic cooperation and strengthens energy sovereignty across the Arab world.
