  • General Secretariat convenes 25th meeting of Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee

    The 62nd session of the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee is set to take place at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo from 21-22 October. The session marks the 25th meeting of the Committee and will focus on reviewing the third periodic report of the State of Qatar, reaffirming Qatar's ongoing commitment to the Arab Charter on Human Rights.

     The discussions will centre on Qatar's progress in fulfilling its legal obligations under the Charter, covering a wide range of topics, including the objectives of the Charter, the right to life and personal safety, equality and non-discrimination, civil and political freedoms, efforts to combat slavery and human trafficking, the judiciary and the right to seek asylum, freedom of opinion and expression, health, education, and the protection of the family, with particular emphasis on women and children. These issues will be examined in accordance with the provisions of the Arab Charter on Human Rights.

    The meeting is expected to foster a constructive dialogue between the Committee members and the Qatari delegation, which will comprise representatives from various government agencies. The session will be attended by representatives from permanent delegations to the League of Arab States, the Arab Parliament, the Permanent Arab Committee for Human Rights, the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, as well as national human rights institutions and civil society organisations.
